Watch the Automate LIVE Interview

Jeff Winter’s Automate LIVE conversation with Chris Luecke focused on one key message: AI pilots do not scale without the right factory data, network visibility and infrastructure behind them.

In the interview, Jeff shares what manufacturers should ask before investing in the next AI initiative, including whether teams can connect to the right data, understand what is happening across operations, act on insights and trust the output.

Watch the interview, then connect with Belden to talk through what AI readiness could look like inside your operation.

What AI Readiness Really Means

AI adoption is growing across manufacturing, but adoption does not always mean readiness. In Jeff Winter’s Automate LIVE interview with Chris Luecke, one point stood out: too many AI initiatives start with the technology instead of the outcome.

As Jeff put it, “If you have a vague business problem, you’re going to have a vague AI pilot.”

That is where AI readiness becomes practical. Manufacturers need to know what outcome they want to improve, what data is required and whether their plant floor infrastructure can support the decisions AI is meant to improve.

What manufacturers should ask first

Before launching the next AI pilot, start with better questions:

  • What operational outcome are we trying to improve?

  • Can we connect securely and reliably to the data we need?

  • Can we see what is happening across machines, lines and systems?

  • Can we understand the data well enough to make decisions?

  • Can we act on those decisions inside the workflow?

  • Can operators and teams trust the output?

Why infrastructure matters

Most plants were built to run, produce, stay reliable and stay safe. They were not originally built for open data flows, contextualized information or feedback loops for decision making.

That does not mean manufacturers need to rip and replace what they already have. It means they need to make existing systems more connected, visible and useful.

Belden can help manufacturers take practical next steps around:

  1. Industrial network visibility

  2. Legacy and multi vendor system integration

  3. Secure OT data movement

  4. Gateways, edge intelligence and middleware

  5. Operational data for analytics, AI and smarter automation
